Buying a house with no gas
My son and his girlfriend have viewed a house they like in a small area outside London and none of the houses have gas but the house has a solar panel on the roof.
Does anyone have experience of this or live in a house that doesn’t have gas as no doubt it will cost more to heat. |

I believe they are stopping the installation of gas boilers in new build property fro 2022 if I recall correctly. I believe they can swap to a different type of cas but the emphasis is on renewable energy. I'm not 100% but I had a conversation about it recently so worth looking it up.
We aren't on gas but oil due to being a rural property. |

We don’t have a gas supply. We spend maybe £750-£1000 per year on oil for hot water and heating, hard to pin it down as prices fluctuate a lot.

We have an oil tank also, no gas here. Similar costs to Claudette, but we have a monitor on our tank that alerts the oil company when it's down to 20% full then they call and arrange a delivery.

My mum has electricity only in her flat.
It depends on the system in place. In my mum’s flat, she has to wait for her water to heat up if she wants to wash the dishes, so she just uses the kettle. The storage heaters she has are super expensive, so she has bought plug in oil heaters, but even those are pricey to run and she only heats one room at a time… Not sure how much it costs her, but she finds it a struggle cost wise. |

I think some properties are now having air source heat pumps or ground source heat pumps as an alternative to gas as well.
