I understand it might not be the most fulfilling job in the world, but there is no excuse to be rude to people. One thing I have found with security staff is sometimes they give you orders/tell you to do something and just assume that you know what they are talking about. They then shout at you for having your ticket in a plastic wallet or for walking towards them before they beckon you and it's not fair as how are you supposed to know?!

We had a lovely TSA guy on our trip to Washington 2 years ago, who ushered us through together and was quite gobsmacked that we ad come to Washington for the weekend as he claimed there was nothing to see/do there and he was advising us to hop on the train to NYC!

Poor Poot, ageing out of The Queen's favour. Odd too, as I much prefer children when they are older and you can have a good chat with them They are much more interesting when you can talk with them. Plus, I imagine Poot is super interesting to chat too, so much better then some toddlers.
I love the memorials in DC, and your photos of the Jefferson are wonderful. I also really liked the Lincoln, and the war memorials all lit up.

Shame it was a bit of a grumpy miserable day, but Poot seems to still have had a good time, and you did manage to get a few more sights seen.

Also... Kermit was at the Smithsonian 2 years ago, and I would choose him over Elmo any day

Oh...and it was old Kermit, too. Makes me even sadder.

Yes, I'm sure they've SAID it all ten thousand times - but it's the first time I heard it. And for those of us who travel a good deal - every place on earth has different rules. But it shouldn't be that hard to just BE NICE. And if you work for the Smithsonian - you're representing AMERICA. So please don't be an a$$.

We haven't had a friendly TSA chap in a while...I won't hold my breath.

And I love kids (though I'll be honest, the "tiny baby" stage wasn't my favourite) - but it IS nice to have a broader range of conversational topics from which to choose as they get older.

I think the other thing (with The Queen) is that she lives twenty minutes away from my brother and his kids. So she really KNOWS them. Whereas Poot - it's almost like he's a different child every time she sees him. Though the arguing/debate thing doesn't help.

I'm pleased that we're back in D.C., it seems to be safer than Baltimore based on your experiences so far. Apart from a couple of rude shouters that is. I've always been of the opinion that if you ask people something the right way you'll never have to tell them to do anything. Certainly not roar and shout at them.

I'm finding your reports really interesting. There is just the right mix of educational info, humorous anecdotes and bird pictures. Must remember to wear nice socks during my couple of days in Washington next year just in case I am asked to pull up my pants. Best to be prepared.

Teehee...nice socks.

I'm still not sure what that was about. Did she think I had a knife tucked into my boot?

Silly woman, OF COURSE I keep my knife in my brassiere.

Thank you for the kind words. Looking back over this report, I can see how "rough and ready" it was compared to some trippies. If it has been of any use to you - I am delighted.

You've met me, so you know that to have checked the bra she would have needed scaffolding and a crowbar.
