I've been to a few, my expectations are normally matched to the price- you can get a great afternoon tea at our local national trust place (polesden Lacey if your ever in this neck of the woods) it's not fancy but Delish (and about £12 for 2 I think)
But I've also been to the Sanderson (mad hatters tea) in London (different but still good) and one at a localish hotel and that was awesome! Fancy plates, fancy teas, fresh scones! Mmmmm...

I have done a few of these, mainly in London, but my absolute favourite is still the Ritz.

If you fancy going a little bit further on from Cheltenham & going into Herefordshire then Woods of Whitchurch just outside of Ross-on-Wye is fantastic.
Beautiful crockery, the tables are set really prettily & the food is fantastic. £18 for afternoon tea or £22 for high tea. The tea menu is really extensive & you can pick as many different types of tea to try as you please. The staff are super friendly. |

OK folks thank you all
We went to Patisserie Valerie in Chippenham in the end and I have to say it was one of the best afternoon teas we have had and only £25 for both of us. Lots of three-tiny-bite sandwiches and cakes and scones and loads of cream and jam and endless refills of loose leaf tea. We certainly wouldn't have chosen it without the recommendation because the venue isn't very posh, it's 'just' a cafe in the town. thank you all for your help |
