What do you expect from Afternoon Tea?

How did you find the Assembly Rooms? I've read mixed reports but as it's only 15 miles up the road I'm thinking about treating the better half. Had a nice afternoon tea at Bawdeswell garden the other Saturday so now keen to try some more places.

The unicorn tea was excellent, we booked a Halloween themed tea as soon as we'd finished I will say, our waitress seemed a bit snobby and was a bit useless- she asked if we wanted more tea and sandwiches, we said yes, but nothing materialised until we asked again. Then the same thing happened with the scones! When I've visited in the past with my parents the staff have been unfailingly polite, so I wondered if it had something to do with my partner and I being a bit under-dressed and a bit unconventional-looking? I'm probably being paranoid...we both enjoyed ourselves enough that we're looking forward to going back!
