Day 0

We left the hotel early and headed to Manchester airport on the train (to the PP who asked how my hangover was, I never get hangovers from cocktails, only wine. Lucky me!) and checked in. We were booked in the Styal Lounge which was DREADFUL, please, if you are thinking of booking it please don't bother, its ugly, cramped as hell and the food and drink selection was appalling. There were mini bacon sandwiches (nowhere near enough for the number of people in there so it was like a riot when they got brought out), cereal (not bad, I mean, its cereal) and pastries (pre-packaged, vile! ). I didn't take pictures because I didn't want to soil my camera with the grossness. Never again.

We were flying in Virgin economy, here was the menu..

We started with drinks and mini pretzels - vodka and coke for me and a Tiger beer for Chris:

Foodwise I went for the pulled beef, Chris went for the chicken curry. This came with a salad, rock hard bread roll, a pot of Boursin cheese and a Gu pudding.

The beef, although it looked grim, was actually very tasty. The spring onions on top added a bit of flavour and the mash was very nice too. Chris said the curry was like a nice, generic microwave meal. All in all not bad for plane food.

After a while they brought round mini Fab lollies, I don't really like them (ice lolly and chocolate do not belong together! ) so Chris had mine too.

With about an hour to go we were served 'afternoon tea' - a choice of wrap with some little teeny tiny crisps and a Millionaire's shortbread. I went for the chicken wrap and Chris had the cheese.

This was really lovely, the chicken wrap came with a sweet chili mayo which cut through the richness really well. The millionaires shortbread was a bit sickly but with it being so small it was just about right.

We arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel and headed straight down to the pool! Chris had some beers and I had some frozen cocktails - I didn't take anything down with me though so no pics here's a picture of one from our trip last year though, its called an Electric Ladyland and contained blackberry vodka and frozen raspberry and lemon slushy.

I had two of these and a 'Lithium Sunset' which was a mango flavoured one - beautiful!

We forced ourselves out to Citywalk that night for food despite being exhausted and settled on Hot Dog Hall of Fame - that's my handsome husband posing at the counter

I had the 'Los Angeles'- 'Farmer John's foot long dog, mustard, relish'

Chris had the 'New York' - 'Sabrett all-beef dog, sauerkraut, mustard'

These were AAAAACE! So tasty - we were so disappointed by the quality of the hot dogs last year and this just erased all that the chips were like thicker Burger King chips - yummy! I also had a pink lemonade:

My favourite drink ever, that was the moment I truly knew I was back in Florida

On the way back to the hotel we stopped at Coldstone Creamery, we shared a strawberry ice cream. We were so tired we didn't even get any mix-ins even though they're free - the staff looked at us like we were psychos.

This was tasty but so massive and even between us we couldn't finish it, half of it went in the bin. Shame.

Better to come in the next entry!

There is something very nice indeed about a good hotdog! Love the cocktails at HRH (not the prices though ) and I hope you made it to the Velvet Lounge over the next few days

Sadly not, however when we arrived to check in there were some cocktails and food being handed out in the lobby (I think there was some kind of Hard Rock convention going on) and the cocktails were the ones sold in Velvet Lounge. We had some kind of Ice Tea type one, it was very strong but joyous after the long flight!
