Denver to rapid city

I don't fancy doing this trip in one go so anyone have any idea where to stop and which hotel please. Would prefer about 250/300 miles the first day and the rest on day two but I am open to anywhere as long as it's a good hotel

Can't help, but I am desperate to visit Mount Rushmore and then on to a ranch in Wyoming for a few days horse riding.

Has anyone done a roadtrip of this sort?

On our road trip, we stopped over in Cheyenne for the rodeo, it was then a 260 mile drive to our accommodation near Rapid City. Not quite the split of mileage you were looking for but it worked for us.

We did this on a massive road trip back in 2011. We stayed in Rapid City and then the Black Hills which were lovely to do Mount Rushmore. We drove straight back to Denver from the Blackhills in one go which took about 6 hours. To be honest there is not much on the way but on the start of our trip we went Denver to Cheyenne and then Casper before heading to Teton and Yellowstone.

Casper might work and was a nice little town. We stayed at the C’mon Inn which is a chain in Wyoming whichh looks like a western lodge. The rooms were great and all face an indoor pool and lots of hot tubs dotted about the interior. We stayed in a few of these and loved them. However it was nearly 8 years ago so it may have changed.

We went to ogalala when I was a kid. It’s avout 40 years ago but I remember an old fashioned front street and some sort of street show with cowboys. It’s a litte out of the way.

The most direct option looks like Scotts Bluff but I don’t think you’ll find anything more exciting than a holiday inn.

Ok so the decision has been made... as we are likely to be up early we are going to take the long drive to Keystone around 370 miles stay overnight, stay late the next day then the last 25 miles for 3 nights in Rapid City. Booked 2 nights buffalo 1 night Cody 5 nights Yellowstone and 2 nights Teton National park which just leaves 4 nights to find on our way back to Denver.
Thanks for the help.
