Yup, we have a very similar cat and had to use a harness for a few months - he also still prefers to go out it one of us goes with him so I can often be seen taking a walk around the garden of an evening 😀

He can find his way home, he’s there, it’s his garden, his territory. It’s when you can’t see them you have to worry. But cats are more savvy than we give them credit for. Now it’s summer my two stay out a bit longer and one of them is a little b***er to get in! He gets wise to all the tricks so we just have to let him come in when he’s ready. Still frustrating! We don’t have a cat flap so just leave the door open, only when we’re in. I have control of the inning and outing. Although obv not complete control 😂. Ours used to have a harness.

Has Johnny been "done" ? If not, he might be out there waiting for a pretty young female cat to take his fancy.

Glad you got him in and perhaps a cat harness would help?

Yes, both cats have been neutered so I don’t think he was “courting”! He’s really nervous generally - fine with us but will hide if other people come round. He doesn’t like being approached but is really affectionate when he wants fuss. He’s a strange one!

Both our cars are house cats (busy traffic neighbourhood) our oldest is a neutered lad of almost 15 who used to try to visit the neighbours cats up the street. Our younger neutered lass used to live rough in the school field opposite our home until 6 years ago and she has moments when she wants to head out for the day and moments when she’s too terrified to step over the door. The lad no longer has his friends up the street since they have all past away now and the lass prefers to only go out if we go out with her and still has panic attacks at sudden noises or sudden movement within her eyeline.
Perhaps they just have different personalities and want different friends to play with.
