Dubrovnik or Split

Has anyone any suggestions of where to stay if I holiday in Croatia. Dubrovnik and Split come up a lot and also the “area of” both cities.
So, what are your thoughts?

We are looking at Croatia and plan on doing both over a week - half and half.

We did a day trip round old town Dubrovnic from a cruise we were on. Its well worth a visit. Hoping to go and stay there in the future.

Hi, my wife and I lived in Croatia for 3 years and can certainly recommend a holiday there. Both Dubrovnik and split are excellent. Lots to do in both. I would suggest hiring a car and visiting both. Cvtat is an excellent choice which is on the outskirts of Dubrovnik and transport to Dubrovnik is excellent. Split is more vibrant and lively. From split you can get a ferry to the islands Hvar etc lovely for a day excursion.

Half and half, both are lovely but small. I only had a day in each and liked them equally

I prefer Split, and nearby Omis, so much to do!

Loved Dubrovnik. Liked Split too but Dubrovnik would be my choice.

I haven’t been to Dubrovnik but we spent two weeks in Omis near Split last summer and had a fabulous time. There is so much to do: Historical places to visit, great beaches, water sports, kayaking, rafting, canyoning zip-wiring etc

We loved it and would go back.

I think the main difference is beaches, the beach near Omis is sandy with lovely shallow clear water, so you can combine the city with relaxing on the beach, best of both worlds! Or be really adventurous and head over to one of the lovely islands, Brac, Hvar etc.
