Where to stay in Memphis?

I'm a little nervous about staying in Memphis as I believe it is quite a dodgy place!

We're only staying two nights, so we can see Gracelands and the Lorraine Motel.

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in a safe area.

Thanks

We stayed at the Comfort Inn Central, which was about a 15 minute walk to Beale Street. It has a rooftop pool and was cheaper for parking than a number of the others. We walked around in the evening and never once felt unsafe. We really liked Memphis and could have spent longer there - there is a lot to do.

The area around Beale St is heavily touristed and a lot of police presence. As already mentioned this area is about as safe as any major city for tourists and safe to walk even at night - but only on the heavily populated streets.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn on Beale St and would highly recommend as a central place to stay. 15 minute walk to Civil Rights Musuem or a couple of mins in the car. Graceland about 25 mins out the city.

There are cheaper hotels at the malls out towards Graceland but these are in more down at heel neighbourhoods and while no doubt safe to stay there, you wouldn't want to explore the areas on foot.

Graceland also has it's own motel and does 'deals' on stays and tickets so that could be an option.

If you have time to add something else to your visit I highly recommend the Sun Studios tour.

Can also recommend the sun studios tour as Olympiad has said. Is there still a shuttle that takes you from Sun studios to Graceland to beale st area where the Gibson factory was?

We stayed at the Doubletree opposite the Memphis Redbirds stadium and 3 mins from Beale Street. We didn’t ever feel unsafe in Memphis and walked to Beale Street, to the Lorraine Motel, down the the river, up to Sun Studios. You will need a car to get to Graceland or there is a shuttle from downtown/ Sun Studios.

Another one who stayed at the Hampton Inn. It's great.

Don't be too worried about safety, it's not as bad as you read. We felt reasonably safe, like any US city, you have to be sensible

I was there last May and stayed at the Guest House at Graceland - it’s the hotel they’ve opened to replace the Heartbreak Hotel. It was really lovely, very good value and so convenient for visiting Graceland. We used Uber to get into the centre of Memphis to explore and it was really easy and cheap.
