I have been looking into this lately too, we have been to HHN but never Howl O Scream and are hoping we can visit it this year.
I have watched a few videos and it looks more intense. I am looking forward to them releasing the exact dates. I am hoping to get their version of the fast pass for the evening - it sounds like good value with the buffet. |

I know it's a separately ticketed event but can you get tickets for just howl o scream, or do you need tickets for busch as well? I think it's pretty reasonable priced event

It doesn't get the same press, but is very good according to my DD and a lot cheaper.
SHe says HHN has lots spent on design and houses, looks good, but tends to be a prosession through the house so you know what is coming and so is more towards Disney with little in the way of real scares. Howl-o-screams has less money spent, but is not as busy , they hold you back, so they tend to have more hits with screams. They also have hits after the houses have finished (eg Hedge suddenly comes alive and attacks you. I did HHN with her a few years back and agree on the lack of scares due to the crowds and staff making sure you do not slow down, but she's not sure if my heart would handle Howl-o-screams It has me intrigued, but I tend to trust her warning . You only need to buy the howl-o-scream ticket. Edited at 01:30 AM. |

It's much much better.
The houses are lighter so you can see details and they have a lot of visual scares (they often run year on year). They let you through in small groups so you don't see the scares coming. The scare zones make the most of the foliage and natural cover giving more places to hide. They have something called fright feast where you can eat during the park change over with entertainment and you get exclusive entrance to the houses for about 40 minutes after that. But they do like their smells and last year they had a house where you could be split up from your party... that was entertaining going around on your own.
