I don't particularly like seeing sea creatures in captivity because I just don't think that, even with the best will in the world, we can get anywhere close to replicating their natural lifestyle. And whilst I appreciate that Seaworld does contribute to rehabilitation and rescue efforts, I don't think this makes up for them breeding in captivity and then keeping the youngsters as performance animals. So, for me it's a no go.

I would love to see whales out at sea so one of the things on my bucket list is a trip to Alaska to go whale watching (and I'm aware that this isn't a perfect solution either in terms of eco friendliness and whatnot).
Well said, this sums up my thoughts. We were in two minds as to whether to go last year, and we did go. I wish we hadn't, we didn't go to the Orca shows, and after seeing the very sad looking Orca with her baby in a bland tank with little room to move, we left. I understand that we only saw that small snippet, and I know that SeaWorld do a lot of good things, but it wasn't for us, and actually upset me.

Without getting in to the for and against argument relating to the documentary/film, you really need to make the decision to go for yourself as you will always get a polarised response from those for seaworld and from those against seaworld.

There have been many threads on this subject and for every point raised in the documentary/film there is another point raised contradicting it.

It's my fav park... my son and niece loved it. The women weren't so happy about going there they always think it's too hot.

By the way if you seek negative Youtube videos about a subject you will find them.

There are plenty about Disney and DLP and high suicide rates among workers, or about Universal's safety record.

In fact any large corp has the little guy posting a video about it on you tube.

If you think it's wrong then it's wrong.

I think Seaworld manages to keep the education/entertainment balance just right.

They do a lot of good and I admit it might be at the cost to some Whales but without them the place would close and the good they do with other fish and mammals would be gone as well.

My view is very much that there are two sides to this arguement and it tends to go back and forth getting a bit heated but really only you can decide. I will say though if you felt strongly enough against something then I don't think you'd be debating going or not.

I didn't mean for it to be a touchy subject, i just know the media portrays it in a negative light... but i haven't been there first hand to experience it, so i wanted people who have actually been there to say its alright... its not what they make it out to be.

I am just going to think about it and see how i feel closer to the time.

Thanks everyone, sorry if i offended anyone.

I agree with this..if you have doubts already OP,I'd give it a miss and make plans to go and see Orcas in the wild.

I too have seen Blackfish and cannot believe how one sided and biased it is.

I have been to Seaworld on every visit to Orlando and have made my mind up to continue doing so.
Sums it up nicely for me.

Those outside of Orlando portray it in a bad light. The bloggers/media who are local are VERY supportive of Seaworld, particularly in light of all the rescue work that they do along the Florida coastline.
