I think with the kids at the end being new resistance fighters I think they will do a bit of a time jump and have that Leia died in between. Agree that Luke’s death was a bit rubbish too. I grew up with Star Wars so as much as I like the old characters I do really like the new ones too. Poe probably my favourite

I've been looking on the internet and this film is really dividing people. On Rotten Tomatoes the critic reviews have it at 93% certified fresh but audience reviews have it only 56% rating. I want to see it again soon and hope I like it more.

DH and I watched it yesterday morning. He is a huge star Wars fan and although we both enjoyed it we felt it wasn't Star Warsy enough, if that makes sense!

I agree you probably don’t get a bigger fan of Star Wars than me I enjoyed the film but it was missing something.
I really am interested to see where they go from here.

That's how I felt, the thing is if it's typical Star Wars then it becomes very " samey " the casino scene you could liken to the old Han Solo bar scene but there was very little point to it really , the floating Leia I found cringey and Luke should have gone out in style .
Bit underwhelmed with it really and felt I had been cheated but maybe it's just wanting too much out of something that's had its day .

Not read the thread but my immediate opinion is not sure it's as good as The Force Awakens, tries a bit too hard to be funny and didn't care for the Leia space walk.

I'm going to see it again next Saturday without the burden of expectation in the hope I get more out of it. None of my friends who grew up with Star Wars liked it. The main gripe was Luke Skywalker. One of the most iconic characters of all time and they ruined him. I got why he wasn't part of The Force Awakens but how he was written in this was a real disappointment. I'm now understanding the whispers that Mark Hamill and Rian Johnson had lots of disagreements, Daisy Ridley was so upset that she cried when she read the script and the whole crew cheered when it was announced that JJ was back for episode 9 and not Rian Johnson which was the strong rumour.

The logic of it in places annoyed me - I know, it is all make believe but still ...

The opening battle with the dreadnaught, why did the bombers have to fly so slow they looked like WWI bi-planes flying into a headwind, and in straight line? Every other bomber in Star Wars has fairly zipped along.

Snoke - wanted to see his back story, he built up the First Order from ashes of Empire, and why does he look the way he does - nope, lets just slice him in two. Also, as a master of the Force , he never noticed the light sabre being pinned towards him?

Final chase with the other dreadnought, just out of range, thought was silly - and the infinite shields on the rebel cruiser, in previous films they are drained by large blasts and only last so long...

Some good points made here
Done really good star wars moments that bring a tear to my eye and then some where I am embarrassed!

It’s no empire strikes back
Just too much cheesy humour but there was enough to enjoy it

So Nien Numb is there but no Lando Calrission?

Also I thought Adrian edmundson was great and should have been in there more!

Just got in from watching this after avoiding all spoilers.. and this thread!

Overall, it was a good film although I preferred rogue one. For me, it was about 15 mins too long. The casino scene was a bit pointless in my opinion, and as previously stated the floating through space bit was over the top. It will be interesting to see how they handle the character in the next episode.

Surprised Luke has gone, I thought he’d be in the next episode as a mentor/guide type character for Rey.
