We have gone from Heathrow for the last 3 years, gone by car though but stayed the night before at Premier Inn T4. Heathrow has free transport between the terminal plus it connects to Paddington or by bus too.

I always hated Heathrow but now it is so easy and would avoid it - now we have worked out staying the night before and the free transport between terminal makes it so easy. I don't like Gatwick, not as nice to get about.

If going by train make sure your return train ticket has flexible times to allow for any flight delays!

We did this last year and had no problems either going down or on return.

We come from the West Country. Having had fairly unpleasant experiences with the Heathrow Reading Railair bus, and train to Gatwick from Reading (overcrowded, often delayed/ cancelled, little luggage space) we now go into and out of London. Heathrow is easy, the Heathrow express is usually on the next platform. For Gatwick we get a cab to Victoria (about £15) and use the Gatwick express. Both designated airport trains are clean, quick and have loads of luggage space. We always go down the night before.

We regularly travel from LHR arriving into Euston by train. BlackBerry cars Euston to LHR = £30.

If you are travelling direct then you will need to probably come into london euston and then on the tube to the Gatwick express

You will have to cost of a hotel st gatwick bit you will save money on morning peak train fares.

That's a summary!
Noooooo arriving into Euston its a five minute walk to St Pancras , no need to drag bags on and off the tube to Victoria for a train to Gatwick. 44 minutes direct train.

We use the train to Gatwick every time. We come down from Peterborough into Kings Cross and walk over to St Pancreas and get the train.

There are usually several trains close together - make sure you check the arrival times as some are faster than others. Trains are operated by thameslinkrailway

Ironically we can get a direct train from Peterborough to Gatwick but its more expensive than getting the fast LNER train to Kings Cross then walking and getting on the same train at St Pancreas!

We've just book the train for May from Manchester - Euston with avanti west coast, we got a flexible return family ticket for £110 for 2 adults & 3 children, the outbound train is set but return flexible within 1 month.

We then plan on walking to St Pancras and getting the train from there which is roughly £40 return with family and friends railcard.

We are staying at the BLOC overnight which we just got for taxes using our hotels.com free nights, but I'm sure there are cheaper options if booking OOP.

Even with the additional £150 rail fare (we would have had to pay fuel/parking at Manchester if we were flying from there anyway), it's worked out a heck of a lot cheaper to fly from Gatwick - flights were less than £1300 for the 5 of us.

I’m finding this thread very interesting, I am wanting to go end of August 2021 so hopefully booking end of September/ October. We live near Newcastle but have to travel for decent prices. Not sure whether to do the flight down night before into Heathrow and transfer to Gatwick and vice Versa on way home or to get the train into kings cross , cross over the road to st Pancras and get the train or as suggested get a taxi to Victoria and Gatwick express. Any more advice or what option would people chose? 4 of us 3 adults, 1 child. 2 medium cases. Thanks
