An Ice Cream a Day is the Moreton Way! - Day 6 Hollywood Studios and Olive Garden

Day 6 – Hollywood Studios
Wednesday 29th May 2019

We are now at the stage where it is harder to get up in the mornings especially after a long day yesterday, we managed to force ourselves out of bed at 7am. Lucas was especially slow this morning. Despite this Lee was still insistent that we would arrive for rope drop so that we could ride slinky dog. We had tried everyday to book fast passes but unfortunately, we didn't achieve the impossible so we knew we would have to get there early if we wanted to ride it.

We pulled into the car park at 8.30am, parked up in Mickey 302, which was only a short walk away from the main entrance. We were quickly through the turnstiles and allowed into the park, however all guests were being held in the main street until it was time. At 8.55am we joined ¾ of the guests in the park by heading to toy story land. The other ¼ headed towards RNRC and ToT. Despite several CM’s pleading with people not to run and not to turn into a race there were still some people (mainly grown men) who insisted on pushing past kids and weaving in between pushchairs.

We arrived into toy story land and immediately joined the queue for Slinky Dog which was just by the entrance. We were immediately greeted by a very jolly CM who informed us that the wait time was 1 hour! , it was only 9.01am. He was telling everyone to make sure they had sun cream on as it was already 90 degrees and we were going to be stood in the sun for a while.

I did manage to have a picture with the boys while in the queue which was nice.

We moved steadily forward obviously not steadily enough for the boys as the wound each other up the whole time.

We made it on the ride at exactly 10am. It was definitely worth the hour wait, Lucas loved it and had his arms in the air the whole time. It is the perfect family coaster, very smooth, fast but not to fast and lasted a decent amount of time. The only issue is you want to go straight back on but unfortunately the queue was now 2 hours long.

Next up was a firm family favourite, TSM, however we were greeted by an army of CM’s who informed us that the ride was down but they were letting people on with FP’s. We found this strange but as we had FP’s we joined the line. Unfortunately, there was nothing fast about our fast passes as it took us 45 minutes to get on, one side was down and there were just too many people with FP’s for the ride to cope running at 50% capacity. Despite the wait time we all loved the ride, Lee and Lucas won as they outscored Jacob and I.

It was now time to take a look around Toy Story Land, the theming was superb, there were people everywhere we even queued to go to the toilet!

We moved onto Municeberg to meet Edna Mode; the boys weren’t to fussed but Lee insisted. We then watched a bit of the Incredibles street party which was fun for the kids although Jacob was far too cool to get involved and Lucas was ‘hangry’.

We moved on to Commisionary Lane to grab a snack but as it was 11.55am it was very busy. We found a seat while Lee queued up to order. We got some drinks and a chicken finger meal to share which came to just over $20. In truth I think the break from the sun was needed more than the food. After a good 40-minute rest we wondered round to Star Tours for our 12 to 1pm fast pass, well at least Lee thought it was 12 to 1pm, it was in fact 11 to 12 and it was now 12.30pm. We were very lucky as the CM let us on but he did say we might not be so lucky next time.
Lee hadn’t been on this ride on our last few visits as he is not a big fan of simulator rides but he said he enjoyed it and it wasn’t as rough as he remembered.
Next up was the Muppet 3D show, we are not massive fans of this and it could definitely do with being updated but it was a chance to sit down in 20 minutes of air con. We were straight in to the pre-show and then in to the theatre. The boys loved it; Lucas loved sweetums.
After the Muppets we decided it was time for a daily ice cream. We only ever eat ice cream at one place when at Hollywood Studios, that’s at the place on the corner of Sunset Boulevard by RNRC and ToT. We got our ice creams and ate them quicker than the sun could melt them (just).

We checked out the wait times for RNRC and ToT and they were both 100 minutes which is well beyond our tolerance levels. We had a FP for RNRC for 4pm but it was only 1.30pm. Jacob was desperate to wait for the FP time, after a quick family meeting we decided to stay. We were all tired but determined to make the most of our Disney days. We went into the 2pm, Beauty and the Beast show which we hadn’t seen for a while. I loved it and although they wouldn’t admit I think all 3 of the boys enjoyed it.

We then went around to the animation courtyard to meet Chewy and BB8, we are by no means Star Wars fans but I knew the boys would love Chewy and BB8. The queue was about 15 minutes for each of them, Chewy was definitely better but he was not impressed with Lucas’s dark side t-shirt but he forgave him.

We were still 40 minutes early for our RNRC FP so we went into the 3.30 showing of the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. It was good and that theatre is always nice and cool which is defiantly a bonus.

It wasn’t quite 4pm, so we had time to grab some pictures with Cruz Ramirez and Lightening McQueen.

Now this was what Jacob was most looking forward to...here he is already to ride RNR for the first time...

Jacob and I then joined the queue and even with our fast pass it still took 35 minutes. Jacob loved it although his ride picture said otherwise.

He went straight back on with Lee as we had 4 FP’s but there was no way Lucas would go on. Lee and Jacob were on and off in 25 minutes. I waited with Lucas in a small shady spot by the exit where Lucas dropped off in the pushchair (again showing why even at this age they do need it)

It was now time for the hardest walk of the day, the one to the exit, it was just before 5pm but it was still boiling hot, no tram today as we were parked so close to the entrance, we decided to go straight to Olive Garden for dinner. Traffic was slow but we made it in the end and we were seated straight away. The food as always was excellent.
Lee had the tour of Italy (which is a sampler of 3 dishes) he always has this at Olive Garden
Jacob has Spag Bol and Chicken Strips (he was hungry)
Lucas had 1 meatball and spaghetti and fries
I had an appetizer as I was not that hungry (can’t remember what it was)

The boys always had the games consoles, I know they cost but they are worth it to keep them quiet. We were all shattered, the last 2 days had been full on and we were feeling it. We paid the bill $65 plus tip and headed towards the $ shop as the boys wanted some squirters for the pool. This didn’t turn out to be a quick trip as the person in front spent $93 at the $ store!

We then decided to go to Krispy Kremes to buy a dozen doughnuts for the villa, we all chose 3 each which wasn’t as easy as it should have been, too many to choose from. Only cost $10 which is absolute bargain.

It was then back to the Villa for some pool and relax time. From tomorrow we planned to visit the parks in the afternoons and evenings so we could have some later starts. 😊
