A Sad Day At Toms House - Boiler Gone.
Back in 1986 I had an Ideal Mexico floor standing boiler and new central heating installed.
What a great bit of kit. Total issues in the last 34 years:- 2 Thermocuplers replaced 5 Motorized valves replaced 1 Pump replaced but it wasn't that bad anyhow. However. It's probably not an A Rated energy usage one, more like a Z Rating. I needed the hot water cylinder gone as I am doing the bathroom next year and the cupboard it's in is in my way Today it's gone and it probably had another 20 years life left in it. New system being installed as we speak. 2 day job albeit all the Rads I had changed a few Months ago.

I'm on my third boiler in the time you've had just the one and they certainly don't make them like that anymore.

I agree with you about new boilers. Far too complicated and far too much electronic bits on them
I have gone for a Baxi with a 10 year parts and labour warranty.

Good old gear, can't fault it.
My big worry is I had a 50 or 60 gallon cold water tank in the roof 5ft above the ceiling joists on a trestle to give extra pressure for the shower. I was getting dubious about a plastic tank that age so a whole host of things came together to determine it was time for it all to go sadly.

Our tank is on a brick plinth and it’s fine
Our pressure is fine but next door who have a combi boiler always complain it take a week to run a bath and have all sorts of fancy expensive bits of kit on showers to at as they say get wet I’m off to talk nice to the boiler now |
