Mobile Alamo economy car

Hi, currently have an economy car thru VH. I did this thru BA years back and got a Yaris which was very basic to say the least. Has anyone had an Econ car recently? We are only going for a week and VH say it's £54 to go up to the next level. I've had a range of cars over the years but not sure if it's worth the upgrade. I know I'm being a bit wishy washy here but just wanted some opinions or knowledge shared

For the sake of only £54 I’d go for it. More room, more comfort, and in the grand scheme of things £54 is nothing compared to the cost of the holiday. Do it

For the last few trips we've always booked a Compact car via Alamo, and we've always had intermediate cars in the row and chose that instead of the compact. Wonder how much it would be to upgrade at the garage ?

An interesting question as we’ve booked a full size and I’ve done the skip the queue thing which means we can go straight through to the garage. However if we wanted to upgrade can I do that in the car lot or do I have to go through the sales desk?

I've heard stories (albeit some time ago on here) that you can slip the garage guy a $20 and he'll sort you out an upgrade.

Not sure if this still goes on...

Was this just essentially a free upgrade then or did you have to pay for the upgraded car
