Pre- travel day: Giraffe (Gatwick Airport)
At long last my report is now live!
I am now checked into the Hilton at Gatwick, all on my lonesome after “Nev” and I decided to ditch our BA flights due to ongoing uncertainty a month or so ago. Due to flight prices it resulted in me flying a few days earlier than planned but Nev staying behind due to kennel / cattery bookings. The Hilton is also new for us and to be honest I prefer our staple of the Sofitel. We don’t normally leave the Sofitel after checking in but tonight I decided to head over to the terminal to try out Giraffe. It was a bit more of a hike than I expected and I got lost both on the way there and on the way back, had to ask for directions seventeen times, but I made it. I don’t know why I picked Giraffe, I think almost at random, but I had a look at the menu on line and decided it was to my liking. I arrived and was almost immediately taken to a pleasant table. I had already selected what I was going to eat but nevertheless feigned to peruse the menu and decided to stick to my earlier choices of hallumi fries and aubergine tagine. I didn’t manage to stick to my preselected beverage of Diet Coke as I spotted a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc on the menu. My server was very good, asking about allergies and how I would like the food served, i.e. together or in courses. I said I didn’t mind but I received the hallumi fries first with a nice gap before my tagine. Here are the pics. I thought this was a great meal. The hallumi was maybe slightly over cooked but it was still delicious and served with a mild tomato chutney. The tagine was very tasty too, it had a real kick so not for those sensitive palates but fantastic for anyone that enjoys a bit of spice. I thought the service was truly excellent, very friendly and accommodating. It was also quick and I think this is appropriate for a terminal based eatery. My only complaint about this place is that my wine glass was over filled, I like a gap so the wine can breathe. I realise that an over filled wine glass should never be a cause for complaint however, ETA: I remember I used to score. A solid 7.5. Edited at 01:23 AM. |

i think giraffe is quite a good airport food option, I often end up there on my way home from work trips!
I don’t mind the Hilton Gatwick but always pick the newer area in the hotel; Hilton is generally not a patch on Sofitel though. Have a good flight!
