3rd Time's The Charm - Day 16 – 28th May 2010 Magic Kingdom

3rd Time's The Charm – Magic Kingdom

Our final park day, it’s amazing to think the holiday is almost over and we’ll be flying home tomorrow. The 16 days haven’t rushed by at all, which is great, so it’s a bit of a surprise to realise that we’re coming to the end of a wonderful holiday.

Paul is booked to pick us up again today and is at our hotel at 9am as usual. When we get to the Ticket & Transportation Center, we decide to take the monorail to the Contemporary Resort to have a nose around. One day we may stay in a Disney Hotel, and we think we’d like to stay here, so we ask at Reception whether they have a room that we can see.

We’re quite quickly met by a very nice elderly gentleman who is going to show us a room. There aren’t any free in the main building, but he takes us to the garden area where the rooms are essentially the same. Wow, the room is impressive – the layout is nice, the bathroom is really well appointed and it feels quite luxurious.

Once we’ve had a look, he suggests we have a look around the pool area and take some time to relax in the main building and grab a can of Monster Java Energy coffee each ($8.50) while soaking up the atmosphere. The pool area is very nice and the whole of the outside area is really relaxing and has a nice feel about it.

When back inside, we grab a couple of drinks from the counter service restaurant and grab a seat. Once rested, we take a look at the viewing balcony – great place to watch the fireworks from – we’re sold. I know it’s expensive, but we’ll certainly consider coming here in a future trip. All in all an impressive hotel, great staff and lovely amenities.

After looking through all the shops, while Justin talked to the DVC rep, we decided to make a move to Magic Kingdom. We’re not in the market for joining up on the DVC, but were interested to find out how it works.

So, we get back on the monorail and head into Magic Kingdom. It’s nice to finish a holiday here, it feels right to do so.

After seeing the morning parade, we head over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad first and grab a fastpass for later on. We’re going to be here until 7:15 tonight, so we’ve got quite a lot of time to fill since we got here mid-morning.

After a lovely wander around, we decide it’s time to fill up on funnel cake. We have the strawberry flavour one and a bucket of diet coke for $8. Very tasty and, at least with the topping in place, I didn’t end up getting icing sugar everywhere this time.

We did quite a few of the smaller rides today, we had another go on Pirates of the Carribean and grabbed a fastpass for the Jungle Cruise, which we hadn’t done before.

We also went on the Carousel of Progress, another new ride for us, which was totally cheesy, but fun all the same – doesn’t the song get stuck in your head – There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow ……..

Also have a quick ride on Tomorrowland® Transit Authority PeopleMover, which is a fun way of spying on Space Mountain, which we have decided not to go on.

We head back across the park to use our fastpass on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which continues to be a great ride – we all have rides that we don’t want to miss out on & this is it for us.

We then cross back over to the Jungle Cruise. Didn’t really know what to expect from this, but it was more fun than I had anticipated. The captain of the boat was doing her best, but she had a boat full of tourists who weren’t particularly getting into the spirit of it with her.

After grabbing some lunch from Casey’s Corner – 2 hot dogs and a bucket of coke for $12.85 – we sat down in the smoking area in front of the ice cream shop to eat. We don’t smoke, but the area always seems to be pretty quiet, so it’s an easy place to stop and watch the world go by. This time though we don’t see the world go by, it’s the parade.

This is quite a good vantage point, although there are lots of people lining the bridge area, you don’t need to see the lower parts of the floats – the charaters are on top and you can get a great view from here.

Of course, since we’re sitting in front of the Plaza Ice Cream Parlour, it would be rude not to partake. We both have a standard tub for $5.73, I have mint choc chip and Justin has to have vanilla since they seem to be out of his favourite butter pecan flavour.

Another new ride for us next. We picked up a fastpass for Winnie the Pooh and enjoyed the honeypot ride.

With all rides completed that we plan to do, it’s time for some more shopping. We spend some quality time walking through both sides of the shops on Main Street and buy a few bits and pieces – photo frames, mugs, photo album and a T-shirt or two.

The weather is particularly moody today – the temperatures are still high, but the skies are full of clouds. Thankfully it didn’t rain until we were leaving so we were very lucky.

Since it’s our last night, we’re heading back to our favourite restaurant, Vitos for supper. Again, the bar area isn’t being used for food, but they agree to set up a booth just for us and we get the same server as last week, who impresses us by not just remembering us, remembering that tonight is our last night, she also remembers exactly what we had last time.

And, we didn’t disappoint since we also had what we had last time – 18oz new york strip and 13oz filet mignon with Firenze fries. Again, no dessert – just too full, but Justin had a couple of Michelop Ultras and I had a couple of Long Island Iced Teas and an espresso to finish off on - $89 after removing a couple of coupons for drinks that she had given us last week.

Again, the food was spectacular and we were very happy and full when we left.
