Help with dog attack
Our lovely lab has just been attacked for the second time by the same dog 😢
This one was far worse and he is currently in the vets waiting to have surgery to sort his ear out. As this is the second time, can something be done? At the very least would their insurance pay out as it’s looking like a £600-800 vet bill! I’m a bit in shock still so not sure of the best course of action. I know the dogs name and roughly where they live but that’s it. Both attacks were completely unprovoked and I have witnesses at both times. The first time was earlier this year and when I saw her a few days later to let her know that Boris needed antibiotics after her dog punctured a hole in his shoulder she completely denied the whole incident and didn’t know what I was talking about 😡, so I’m not holding my breath that she’ll do the decent thing this time around. Any advice welcome x |

I’m so sorry to hear this, I hope your dog is going to be okay!
I would report it to the police and the dog warden and make sure you have names/addresses of the witnesses. |

Alicia I am so sorry 💜 you must be so worried about Boris. I am honestly not sure what the laws are regarding this but I personally would get Jim to speak to her and say that you expect her to cover the vet bill. I hope that Boris recovers quickly and that someone here on The Dibb can give you accurate advice. Take care xx

Thank you, I’m sure he’ll be fine. The worst part being a Labrador is he’s nil by mouth until his op this afternoon 🥴. I really hated leaving him there, I’ve never had to in his 8 years!
I wasn’t sure whether to contact the police, do they have a dept for this sort of thing? |

Thanks Michelle! Jim has the pitchforks ready so I’m really trying to calm him down so we can do it the correct way.
We’ve asked around so do know roughly where she lives which is a start. Thankfully he was with me as was starting work late today, it was truly horrific 😢 The field we take him to is the type of place where everyone knows everyone’s dog but not necessarily the owners name. Boris as you can imagine is fairly infamous over there but I’m just ‘Boris’s mum’! |

If somebody damages your property (and your dog is your property) then theoretically they have to pay for it. In practice this is a non starter unless they agree to it or you know their name and address which would be required to lodge a claim. You would obviously then need to successfully argue your claim.
If it were me, I would probably put the legal side of it in the “too hard” bucket, but I would definitely report it to police, this sounds like a dangerous dog. |

I hope everyone’s had their breakfast as these photos are a bit graphic but shows the extent of the injury

I second this, but to also add report to your local council too, you may have something similar to ours - Public Spaces Protection Order Scrutiny Group which can also support.
Neighbours have just had a similar incident and the police, dog warden and council are all involved, potentially it could be up to a £5000 fine, imprisonment and/or order's placed against the dog/owner. |

Poor baby, I hope you have him home soon and he is on the road to recovery.
Can I ask the circumstances around the attack, is her dog out loose without her? Just with you saying she denied it last time. I also would be logging it with the police (the wont do much but def get it logged) then try and locate the owner. If the dog is loose on the streets its also the dog warden.
