We have a 16 week old labradoodle, she is 26lb now so going to be a big dog. Her parentage is multi generation labradoodle so she is very likely to be non shedding and hypoallergenic, although you can never guarantee 100%
We have five days booked for Portugal in April when she is six months old. As she won't be neutered then she can't home board and I don't want to leave her in kennels. Our daughter and her fiance are going to have her for those days. We plan Florida in October although we've not yet booked. She will be a year old then , so we've the option of home boarding locally.
We have left her in her crate now and then since she was 12 weeks old, starting with half an hour and it's up to 2.5 hours now. DH works mostly at home and I'm part time so its not every day. Usually if we go out shopping we've left her. She is fine and it frees us up to go out now and then. Once she is six months plus we will gradually try letting her have the run of a room or two if we go out.

As others have said with a mixed breed you can’t tell exactly what they’ll be like, so maybe a pure breed dog.
A bigger dog tends to mean more time needed for exercise…….my little tribe cavalier, cavachon and cavapoo are easy, they’re happy to exercise in the garden if the weather isn’t good but 2 out of 3 enjoy a walk, my cavalier old lady can’t walk far now and prefers sleeping……..but some breeds need a walk or 2 every day, and miles whatever the weather….failure to provide enough stimulation often leads to destructive dogs….
I rarely leave my lot for more than 2-3 hours and when we get home it’s like we’ve been away a week
There’s also the expense to consider……..grooming, food, insurance, vet fees (worming, flea treatment), training……house training alone can take months……..and cost for kennels/home boarding/house sitters while your away adds extra cost to holidays…
Having a dog is a huge commitment, imo a summer puppy is easier than a winter puppy but don’t underestimate how much work they can be at any time of year…
We had a holiday last year with the dogs with a home boarder, we came home early as we were worried about them…….no holiday planned for this year yet and if we do go well take all 3 of them with us……
But after all that we love them all to bits and wouldn’t be without them…..we’ve had dogs for the past 35 years and to us they make our house a home…….even though they have cost us a small fortune over the years……

Airedales are a breed that do not drop hairs.
As an ex-breeder, I can confirm this.

He looks very similar to my Tilly, she us a maltese cross with lhasa apso but her groomer says she is definitely more maltese 💗 she is 12 now, although my sister in law is sure she is 13 because they got a lhasa 3 months after we got tilly 😂😂

We had a standard poodle, absolutely incredible dogs and would love another one when we decide to get another dog.

We kept him clipped quite short everywhere so he didn’t look like a poodle, more like a curly Labrador. His ears, legs, top of his head etc were all short, easy to manage.

He weighed about 5 stone and was big for a poodle so would suit your husband’s wish for a big dog.

I am allergic to some dogs so when we went to see him, I fussed him, put my hands on my face, repeat and then went away for a little while to see if I got a reaction. No issues at all, and as they don’t moult at all, no dog hair to deal with.

😁

Beware that your carpets may end up looking like this, oops

Try to keep an eye on him and stop him but you only need to take your eye off a puppy for a second and there can be destruction 😂

We have a cockapoo. Chosen mainly as a good family dog. He doesn’t shed and is allergy friendly but his fur is a lot of work because of this. We don’t take him to a groomers but deal with it at home clipping him ourselves and keeping on top of things.

Holiday wise, should we go away my in-laws would have him so no concerns for us on that front. However, our next two breaks are both dog friendly in the UK so it’s not come up yet.

Leaving them alone. I’m an extremely bad example here. I don’t work and DH does hybrid working so because of that he’s actually never been left alone in almost a year. He’s very very attached to me and only just stopped having a paddy when I leave the house without him despite up to three other people been here. It’s not an issue any of my friends have had - two have Cockapoo’s, one a Cavapoo and one a Snaudle/snoodle (?) all purchased within the last 18m. This is our fault entirely.

Aw they do look similar! Do they calm down? Max is hyper and has small dog syndrome 🤣

Ours was skirting boards and door corners. Wrecked! Although my friend got a cockerdoodle and he ate her barker and stonehouse table so I’ll take skirting boards any day! 🤣
