I can’t believe the amount of Dibbers that keep their heating on so late at night 😬😩we go to bed at 10 so I turn the heating off at about 8, the house will still be warm for a while & don’t need it too hot when under the covers

Our heating is set at 20 comes on in the morning around 7 and goes off around 7
Only comes on during the night if the house falls below 10 can’t stand warm bedrooms

I feel the cold, but I also like my windows slightly open to get fresh air otherwise I wake up with a banging headache. I used to have a heated under blanket which was soooooo nice, but it broke, then my MIL gave me her heated throw, and I now have that on the bed, I don’t have it on high and it automatically switches off after 3 hours. I don’t even have it on every night, just when it’s really cold, but I leave it on the bed as an extra layer of warmth.

I could have a winter weight duvet I suppose, but layering is better.

Since getting the nest the heating is on 24/7, we just adjust the temperature. So overnight its at 12 (never kicked in as the house is well insulated), warmer in the morning and evening, then 16 when we are moving around. It picks up our phones, so when we both go out it goes off.
I hate being cold, so would rather save elsewhere. I have put insulating foil behind the radiators. I have lined curtains and roman blinds that get closed at dusk. The loft insulation is above the advised levels and our house has double glazing.
I turn off any electrical items I don't use (but do have some stuff on standby, so could do more)
Our energy supplier went bust so we are still waiting for a full take over from the new one, so once the bills start coming it might make DH be more efficient

We've thought about getting Nest as lots of things are controlled in our house via Google Home. All the lighting, Nest cameras, etc., so it would integrate well. I could control it from the app.

My only small reluctance is I wonder if the convenience of the app would mean I put the heating on more than necessary compared to walking up to the wall controls 😂

We have Hive and we have our thermostat set to 17.5 all day (it goes into frost protect at 9pm and switches off then).

We are out most of the day, but we have a cat at home all day and he feels the cold (I know because when it’s cold in the house he heat seeks) and cats love the warm! I wouldn’t want my house to be so cold that I could see my breath because I’d be worried that my cat was too cold! Call me soft, but I want my cat to be happy and comfortable.

Also, our heating bill reduced hugely when we got hive and started keeping the house at one temperature.

I pay £60 a Month for heating on 12+ hours a day. 3 Baths a day as Son is with us for 2 Months and my Wife also uses hot water a lot in the kitchen.

All that for £60 a Month.

However I have had this from British Gas.

Your gas payments -
You are paying per month.
It looks like you are paying too much for your gas.

Based on your usage, we suggest you consider reducing the amount you pay every month by amending your monthly payment amount.

Plus they refunded me £65 2 weeks ago to try and reduce the balance they owe me.

My strategy is keep the house warm/hot during the day and don't let it go cold and then heat it up repeatedly..
I had the same letter we also dont like being cold- ours is on a few hours a day and I have a huge bath. I have reynaud's too so I really dislike cold. Pay £100 a month gas and electric with British gas and also locked in for 3 years from summer last year.

Perhaps our Government can help reduce costs like they are doing in the EU;

1) Spain & Germany have cancelled VAT on energy bills
2) France have capped increases to 4% (you can do that when it is national industry)
3) Italy have spent £8bn to cap energy costs

Your house is 4 times larger than the UK average so your bills are very impressive

I would agree, but we have to have heating on till late as DH doesn't sleep well he rarely goes to bed before 1am and then only sleeps for about 3 - 4 hours.
