BA to cut 10300 flights

More doom and gloom on the news with the announcent of 10300 flights to be cut before October. These are short haul but won't help people indirect I imagine. Sad times.

Before someone states the obvious about being a big organisation, how can BA seriously sustain a creditable operation.

Those cancellations are going to cause serious disruption to peoples lives, working and holidays.

They could potentially lose thousands of customers which would be financially damaging!

Already effected us
We’d Madrid planned for later in the year they cancelled our flights nd put us on a later flight arriving and an earlier flight departing effectively cutting 2 full days off pur week
But we still had a very early flight to get to Londaon and a late flight to go back to Glasgow
So we’d be sitting around airports for 8 hours both ways so we’ve cancelled

This is a tiny percentage of BA flights I believe 3.5%

If the number is correct, it's a fair bit more than 3.5%. The figure is reported for Aug-Oct, and that averages 112 cancellations daily. That's double digit percentage territory.

In the 2 weeks from 19/06-03/07, BA cancelled over 11% of its previously scheduled July shorthaul flights from LHR and LGW (plus a chunk from LCY). Obviously fewer long haul flights are cancelled, but these numbers are pretty heavy.

They have to notify authorities of schedule reductions this week if they wish to benefit from the temporary slot usage amnesty. The cynical might say that given other news events, today might also be a good day to bury bad news...

Edited at 11:32 PM. Reason: Correct date

Just read about this, on top of yesterday’s announcements it’s not good but least they will give us around 2weeks notice of cancellations time to hopefully arrange alternative flights

Agreed, as if just giving the 10% cut, back to the BA workers like they were on pre-pandemic would have ended up being a lot cheaper for them than the mess they are getting into.

That’s another thing to worry about… we’ll be connecting at Heathrow from Glasgow so my fingers will be crossed for the next 3 months…
