I already have some Airtags that I use in daily life, and will put them into suitcases for my upcoming trip!
I would have loved to have had Airtags when I used to go on National Express every few months or so and the coach would stop at various airports along the way and unload bags - I was always worried that they would accidentally unload my bags at say Stansted and they'd be left behind while I continued on the coach to Heathrow! To be fair this never happened (they were pretty good about putting luggage in the correct compartment) but was always a bit of a worry at the back of my mind!

AirTags use Bluetooth, and they connect to phones - generally people you don't know - using the location services on that phone to determine their position. That other person's phone then uses its internet connectivity to go via Apple's network to relay the location of the tag back to you.
In short there's no "magic" about them. If you dropped a case containing your AirTag into the middle of the Amazon, you wouldn't know where it was as there'd be no-one about with both a phone and internet connectivity. So, if you are tracking your AirTag-equipped case through the airport luggage system, awaiting its arrival, its probably using the connectivity of baggage handlers or other airport workers behind the scenes. Samsung tags will work broadly the same, but I'm not sure if they are able to connect to all Android phones, or just Samsung devices. And, as a devout Apple man, I can't be ≈≈≈≈≈ to go and look it up! |

That and pretty much every travel page I follow on fb is recommending them and sharing stories of lost luggage.
One lady tracked down her case to a storage site for the company that BA use to send the luggage out, they were missing her number on the form so it was just sitting there. She said there were hundreds of cases there. |
