Doncaster Airport under review

There is an article online that the future of Doncaster Airport is under review as it may no longer be commercially viable.

This is very disappointing as it is an excellent airport with fantastic staff and service, and had a weekly TUI flight to Orlando.

I read it is gone and will be used for warehouses, is this incorrect?

Trouble is it was owned by the Peel group who will just run it down to the ground like they did with Teesside Airport. Things turned around here when a public campaign against the local council and Peel selling it for housing gained enough support.
Yes Peel had told Tui they weren’t wanted so making the whole situation unviable right in the middle of a season.
Look at us today, yes we are small but better for the area. We have a small number of flights to Spain, Portugal , Bulgaria , Jersey Amsterdam. May seem small but we are perfectly formed and the most up to date security devices in the country. No emptying bags , the scanners see everything so speeds up the process.
Was only reading yesterday how people saying their Tui flights had been redirected to Doncaster from the chaos of Manchester. What a shame but asset stripping does not care, rather than spend and build up, they just wipe it out

I’ve just read this - we are due to fly 4/9 to Melbourne.
I’m guessing if a decision is made before then, Our flight will be transferred to another airport.
Disappointing news x

Due to fly next Sunday, looks like the review is for six weeks so fingers crossed for no disruption. TUI still appear to be selling flights from there up to next year…

I believe the official line is that there will be no disruption while the review is ongoing. So anyone currently with a booking should not be affected.

Future of Doncaster Airport

Just seen a news article on BBC that there is to be a 6 week consultation to decide future of the airport after whizz pulled out.

Hoping my departure on 31st July goes ahead ok, does say that things will operate as normal during 6 weeks but then does say customers will be contacted in advance should there be any disruption.

I spotted this earlier on the news and there have been a few other posts:

Hopefully enough people will complain to prevent the airport from closing.

Do hope they turn it around like Teesside. Some of my family live in Plymouth and they lost their little airport a number of years ago to housing. Will never return and a big loss - you will only miss it when it has gone. I used to love flying from Newcastle to Plymouth and it used to be cheaper than the train! And quicker!

Hope it’s not true as we are due to fly from there in September. It’s a great little airport with easy parking so we will really miss it if it closes.
