To some extent yes. But in 99% of dishwasher the drain outlet is at the bottom. So the pump has to push that water up 2.5+ feet to connect to the sink waste. It's at the bottom of that pipe and in the sump before the pipe that sludge collects.

I don’t pre rinse but I do scrape and wipe with kitchen towel - which in itself some will disagree with. I remember when I was a child and my auntie and her American husband moved over here - he used to wash up everything first (as in actually doing the washing up!) then it would all go in the dishwasher clean…. We all thought he was a bit odd haha
Also I don’t use fabric softener, can’t stand the stuff the smell is too strong for me and could never stand the mess it made in the drawer, I use white vinegar in the softener part (I use white vinegar for loads other things too!) my clothes are always soft and never smell either. |

Good grief no! Never pre rinse. We have a cheapy dishwasher that came free with our benchmark kitchen. The lady even tried to talk me out of having it she thought it was so awful... its honestly the BEST DISHWASHER EVER! Has a 60° quick wash that takes 25mins. We literally put anything and everything in it. Everything comes out clean. Wouldn't ever cross my mind to pre wash... getting the teenagers to carry plates to the sink is painful enough without additional requirements 🙈

Our dishwasher is awful, we got it when we had the kitchen done 4 years ago, I it’s the one the kitchen fitters recommend and we absolutely hate it. Even if we pre-rinse, stuff still doesn’t come out clean. Recently we’ve found undissolved parts of the dishwasher tabs stuck the the back of the plates.
Pre-rinsing (obviously after scraping any left over food off,) never did it at home but the dishwasher was going on every day, now we do it but only because it probably goes on every 2-3 days, if I’m putting it straight on after we’ve eaten then I’ll not bother with the rinsing as it doesn’t get a chance to stick to the plate for a day or so.

Jings, definitely no pre-rinsing of plates goes on here and never had a problem with any dishwashers in various houses, as Megaflyer say, they seem to last for ages. I'm growing quite fond of the 2 drawer type dishwasher we have in this house we've just moved into. It's filters are really accessible, so they get a rinse or a wash in soapy water every few washes. In my other dishwashers, cleaning the filters was always a bit of a faff.
