Amex platinum 45,000 reward points for sign up

While Amex platinum is not cheap (£650 per year) you can definitely get your moneys worth if you use airport lounges and the hotel benefits.

You get a priority pass for yourself and a supplementary card holder so this will cover you for lounge access for 4 people.

On top of that you get:

£300 dining credit (£150 UK and £150 abroad (at certain restaurants only).

£100 at Harvey Nichols (2x£50 in each half of the calendar year).

Hilton Gold for you and your supplementary card holder (free breakfast)

Marriot, Meliá and other hotel status benefits.

The welcome bonus (once you spend £6k in first 3 months) can be converted to BA Avios or virgin miles.

Just spotted this a few days ago. I have had Amex platinum since 2000 but didn’t know about those perks, I signed up for the hotel status schemes and they have all come though. Now I a picking somewhere to use my dining credit.

Have a close look at the Meliá rewards. I’m centurion rather than platinum so benefits differ but on the Meliá programme I get it includes full 12 Month priority pass. I don’t use it as I get it as a benefit of my Amex but it will be useful on platinum after the free passes have been used

you also get travel and medical insurance - pretty good if you dont have an existing condition and car hire insurance

Access to AMEX centurion lounges as well and you can also prebook lounges - which in the UK is pretty near essential for Heathrow & Gatwick
