I did like Charlie George. .. but there was just something about the fitness, energy, leadership and never say die attitude of Billy Bonds. My favourite ever Arsenal player would be ‘The Romford Pele’. I had a relative play for the Arsenal (and England) a couple of years back (Ray Bowden).

Billy Bonds was the man that you would want alongside you in the Trenches.. or a scrap outside a Pub at closing time.

799 first team games for West Ham over 21 seasons, retiring at 41 years, 226 days.. still at the highest level (First division).

That a player such as Billy. Bonds never got a full England cap, yet his elegant, pretty, but utterly ineffectual team mate ‘Sir’ Trevor Brooking got so many (47) was a travesty.
