Ryan Air Hand Luggage
Has anyone flown with Ryan Air recently who could confirm how they check the size of hand luggage.
The only suitable back pack that I own is slightly larger than their specifications. If I don’t pack it full (so that it’s still squishy) would I be able to squash it into the gauge - and if so, will they allow it on - or do they literally measure them?

I haven’t seen anyone measuring rucksacks when I’ve flown with them. They do have those size check stands where you can see if your case fits so I imagine if you can squash it, you’d be okay.

We have just flown Ryan air hand luggage only (ie did not pay for any luggage) We had back packs and I was worried as had same situation as you. We did not overfill and the rucksack was only a tiny amount over but would fit in if “squished” easily. They were making most people put it in a sizer at the gate and charged many people who were over the size. We were fine. (We didn’t but thought about mocking up a sizer from cardboard at home. Maybe try that, as they did not measure but just asked people to put it in their sizer. Hope this helps.

If not full and can be squashed into the sizer it should be fine. Emphasis on should

Squishing is possible. I’ve found they always measure luggage, sort sided is much easier to manage.

All our short haul trips recently have been with Ryanair taking the free bag only & we’ve never had our bags measured.
In fact in all the years we’ve flown with Ryanair we’ve never had them checked. The only budget airline I’ve flown with who have checked is EasyJet. We normally fly from Bristol or Birmingham. Edited at 10:37 PM. |

We flew with Ryanair in March. As we were lined up in Tenerife for checkin, they walked along the line and anyone that had a bag that looked bigger than allowed was pulled forward and asked to place it in the sizer. It was quite amusing to see some of the young guys pulling clothes out so it would fit and then immediately putting them back in their bags as soon as they were back in line😂

We have used Ryanair a few times and they dont seem to bother people with priority where you get a case as well as the free bag. We have seen the check the measurements of the standard line if its a full flight
