Even though it's movable, I assume that return flight has a specific date and that date is less than 90 days after the outward flight.

The immigration officer may ask about when he plans to return home, so he needs to make it clear that he plans to return on X date and has a flight booked for that date. The last thing he wants to say is "Well, I'm not sure, it depends on how things go", because that is just going to raise suspicions.

I do wonder if applying for a new ESTA when one is already valid might trigger a manual check
I have always done this - over a dozen times and never had an issue. I suspect most do this.

I remember when I went for an extended stay to Arizona in 2021. I had all my documents to prove house and family here in case I got questioned as I was staying with someone as opposed to a hotel. The CBP officer asked how long I was staying. I said 87 days and he said wow lucky you 🤣 I said Id saved up all my planned holidays from Covid. That was it, stamped and I was off.

Hope the esta back soon !

It did! Took about 24 hours. My husband did his yesterday himself and his only took about an hour. Mine was a group application for me and an infant who never had an esta so maybe that’s why it took longer.

That wasn’t a group application. All ESTAs are individual. You made a “group” payment.

It’s a group of individual applications for payment purposes.

Yeah I didn’t think you could be accepted for an esta if you’ve been denied a visa.

It’s a shame he went down that route especially, as he had a valid esta. Unless he was planning on staying longer than 90 days and then changed his plans after the visa denial? That would flag up their end.
