We always use the Long Stay at Heathrow to keep our keys. Never had a problem (touch wood) and as long as we book it plenty in advance the price has always been similar to the purple parking type places and I would rather pay and extra £20 to park it myself, know where it is and keep my keys

Its always worth pricing up short stay at LHR as well, as it’s often not that much more.
Last October for 2 weeks it cost £40 more than long stay to park right by the entrance to the Hilton Garden Inn in a nice end space where the doors couldn’t get dinged. I’m very precious about my car so I’ll only leave it somewhere that I know nobody will be too close to it 😂 |

That’s what worries me with self parking where you keep your keys. I would be mortified to come back and find trolley dents in the doors with no idea who has done it.
Hence I always use a Meet n Greet Company that photograph the entire car.

Last time I flew from Heathrow T5 we used meet and great from Holiday Extras. It was a nightmare. As we were flying back into T3 not T5 they'd messed the booking up and weren't expecting us at T5 despite my email. Then when I checked my car tracker whilst away I was mortified to find it parked in a rugby ground car park.
Challenged it on my return got ignored by both the parking company (plenty of similar reviews) and also Holiday Extras. I'll never use a meet and great again. I'd rather pay more and keep my keys. |

We did Holiday Inn Bath Road and also kept our keys (it was one of our criteria for hotel and parking).
We were actually really impressed with the hotel and will probably stay there again next time we fly from Heathrow. |

If you use the meet and greet official one they scan the car when you go in and move it to their compound.
Ironically in such a scenario it would be easier to establish liability on them possibly if you had a dent in it, compared to leaving it parked yourself. Used meet and greet official various types for 30+ years and never had any damage although I did like the Sofitel setup and will do that maybe again in future if can get a half decent price.

Thanks everyone.
Our problem was that last time we used M&G at Heathrow, DH had notification on his App that the vehicle was on the move several times whilst we were away and then the final straw he had notification of a collision! He emailed them immediately and they denied it but when we got back there was front end damage so then had to hang around whilst it was discussed and eventually liability agreed! It’s certainly put DH off using M&G again.
