I think that as you have said they no longer need people on a Sunday which seems fair. I can’t quite make out why you can do a long shift on a Sunday but need a nap in the week. Is it because there is less work in a Sunday ?

If Monday is now their busiest day not Sunday I'd understand why they want to re-adjust your working patterns especially if it costs them double. I'm also curious as to why you can do 8 hours some days but not on others. Would it be more workable if you could WFH instead of doing the drive, has that been considered?

Originally it’s was 5-5-6 per week the shifts but when they needed people back then they sort of mixed it so I have majority of 5 hours, a few 4s and the two 8s.
As I’ve got used to the rota then I’ve managed. We have a few side rooms so I’ve been having a nap in there- I was working from home until 2 yr ago so wasn’t an issue then.
And I nap during the day cos if I don’t then I’m in bed ridiculously early then up at silly hours with insomnia so Sundays if I don’t have a nap then I’ll be in bed for 7.30 which I can manage twice a month.

They made everyone chose new shifts, us that get paid Sunday have chosen the two Sunday per month pattern.

I would rather go back to the 5-5-6 as it would be easier for me. I’m getting told that it has to be over 4 days so now I’ve just asked if I can stay as I am, since the adjustment were already given then surely the business can support those.

I’m allowed to work 1 shift per week from home currently that’s been since July

This is the full time shift pattern

This is what I requested so that I can match the full time one as much as possible. Keep the shift so I can do school and nap during the week and as they said they wanted some 5/6pm finishes I put those on a weekend to try to be accommodating. But this also gives me the big blocks I already have and it’s very similar to the rota now so not a massive upheaval for me to get used to.

Don’t know if I’m making any sense. It’s the manager above mine that seems to be making all the decisions.

The problem I see is what theyre proposing is making you financially worse off and they're not giving you reasonable enough notice for this change to happen if they are saying it will start the 30th of this month. I am surprised your TU isn't supporting you solely based on this.

I think (and I work for a massive corporation as well) the decision has probably come from on high and they don’t care if they can support it as a business they now don’t want to. It’s unlikely your manager will be able to change this for you. A lot of things were adjusted during Covid and now companies are readjusting whether they actually need to or not.

Might have had the same pattern for five years then as I had it before Covid. My shifts never changed during Covid. The only thing that happened was we had to work from home.

I don’t work in HR but I am an experienced manager and hold CIPD Level 7 so am qualified / trained in it.

I have read all your posts carefully but I still can’t make much sense of your current pattern or what it is changing to or why this impacts you. I think to continue the discussion with your employer you need to be far clearer on that.

As I must admit I am also mystified that you appear to be able to adapt to a full days work on a Saturday or Sunday but not other days and your employer could also be struggling with that.

I can’t really understand much of your post but I can’t understand why you can work a long day Sunday but not other days ?

If there’s somewhere for you to nap on a Sunday why can’t you nap in the week at work ?

I’m sure your employer probably can’t understand it either

If I could do 5-5-6 per week then I’d have no issues. I’ve told them that. I’m happy to drop the Sunday down as I currently nap within work on a Sunday in my lunch hour or go to bed super early. I’ve always just requested to stay as I was as changing shifts has always been a nightmare.

The daytimes were always 9.30-2.30 due to school. 8 hours was not something I requested it was just what they came back with when i first went on this pattern.

This is the new pattern they have given me.
Working 4 days rather than 3 and not having long breaks between is going to effect me much more than working till say 4/5pm.
So even though till 2.30pm helps with the kids and the nap it’s not the top of the list.
Only doing 3 days per week is the main one really.
