Disney Dream using credit cards
Hi Guys i am sure this has been covered but could not find it so please excuse me for throwing it back onto the table for review .
Ok i know you cant spend money on the ship and everything goes onto a disney card you have put against your credit card, like tips and any other things you may wish to purchase . My Question is can you put your card up as security and come the day when you have to settle your bill that gets put into your cabin ,instead of them using your credit card to pay this off ,you pay in cash so you dont have the bank charges 2.75%,and you can also use up any dollars that you have left over from your holiday... the main reason for my question is not the 2.75% bank charge but the fact i will have dollars left over from my previous week in universal and seems silly not to use them |

You can do that, just go to guest services before the last night of you cruise to clear the bill or as much of it as you don't want on the card.
We use a card with no fees, maybe worth you looking at getting one if you'll possible be using a card abroad at any time. |

Firstly, I think there are still some cards that don't charge this 2.5% - Post Office don't and Halifax Clarity I believe but probably others too. It maybe something to consider and just ensures that if they do charge you there isn't an issue. I haven't however checked but its worth looking at these two just in case. Secondly, you can add cash to your room at any time. Don't wait until the last minute as you might find your card has already been charged. Also on longer cruises they will take payment at certain points when you reach a certain value charged - I want to say after you charge over $1000 but I'm not sure (only really an issue if you are doing a long cruise). You can go and check your balance at any time at guest services and pay money on. If you know you are charging certain things like tours & tips etc and have the cash go pay for it in advance as its just easier. Also you can budget for that. With tips they will automatically charge them to your account unless you tell them otherwise. About a day before the end of the cruise they will leave the tip envelopes and a note explaining how much will be charged but even at this point you can go to guest services and ask them to be removed.

We did exactly this. Used the left over $ from WDW and Universal trip to pay the bill at Guest Services on the last full day.
I also have a no fee card. Check Moneysavingexpert. |

I absolutely agree with Sarah, please don't leave it until the last night as your account would already have been settled by then.
If you remove the card from your account, you will be limited to spending $300 on a 3 or 4 night cruise. Once that has been paid (in cash or other), you are free to spend another $300. The cash limit is higher on longer cruises.
