Sat Navs in Hire car ?

We will be hiring a car for the first time on our trip next year and Ive seen lots of threads about what apps to use etc but do the hire cars not have built in sat navs? If not is it best to take your own or get a cheap one out there as I don't really want to rely on my phone ?

Like here a lot of the hire cars do have sat nav built in.
Sods law you buy one and then you find your rental car has it already. Or the reverse happens and you chance it and then find none of them have it on that day!
Even top end cars sometimes dont have it as I found out twice with a Lincoln in the last 12 months.

Personally I would order one into Walmart and pick it up on arrival, failing that a lot of people rent them from E Bay for circa £15 for 2 weeks.

Edit. There is a link above to American Sat Navs who advertise on here. Worth a little look.

We are probably going to add US maps to our Tom Tom.

The cost is about £35 but there is a code which hopefully still works to get a discount of £8.

WELCOMEUK2017

If we get a working one included in our hire all well and good but at least we wil know we have one.

May have to get Homer Simpson voice to please the kids too.

Never seen a sat nav built in to any of the cars that we've hired.

We don't use one over there normally but a couple of years ago we fancied coming home from the coast using the country lanes rather than the interstates so Joan downloaded "Here we go" free to her iPhone before we left. So long as you download the Florida maps here in the UK it doesn't use data when you're over there.

"In three quarters of a mile, enter traffic circle" and there's not many of those over there.

Navmii USA is a free map app where by you download the maps you want. Your phone does not use data this way and its very accurate using your phones GPS.
