Best beach day?

Hi
Fancied trying a beach day this year? We wanted somewhere which you could drive to and back to Disney in a day and ideally somewhere with a few shops/pier to potter around too. Best place to go?

Cheers

You're 3,000 miles from the U.K. Piers are usually fishing piers and the "seaside" is totally different.

We like Anna Maria Island which is on the Gulf Coast and around 2 hours drive from Davenport - a little longer from WDW. Interestingly though on another AMI thread people say they do it in 1.5 hours .

We stay in Highgate Park which is 105 miles from AMI so to do it in 1.5 hours means averaging 70 mph. Considering part of the journey is through a built-up area and the speed limit on parts of the I-4 is below 70mph you might just attract the interest of the Highway Patrol or State Trooper if you aim for that sort of time.

Best to allow 2 to 2.5 hours each way but it's an easy journey mainly via I-4.

This is Holmes Beach on AMI in November and nearby you can catch the trolley which travels the length of the island.

Wasn't being sarcastic, was just stating a fact. The seaside is totally different, it's one of our highlights of coming home to England.
