Our Las Vegas must do's wouldn't be on the Strip. In December you could:

Go Skiing or visit the lodge up on Mount Charleston (would need a 4x4 hire car)
Visit the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam etc
Visit Death Valley, Red Canyon if they are accessible

There is of course a huge amount to fill days on the Strip, but Vegas for us is far more.

There is plenty off strip to do we have a car and spend a lot of time off the strip .

But for a first very short visit which if 4 nights is really only 3 full days I would stick to the strip more than enough there to do and see .

For such a short period you are probably right, but such a pity to only see the strip. US version of a long weekend in Blackpool

1) Take time (or as much as you can afford!) to explore the more interesting Casino resorts (leaving the 'less interesting' ones for another visit). In my view the ones to explore more are Bellagio (we normally stay there, stunning lobby, beautiful glass atrium gardens changed seasonally and themed, and an array of lovely restaurants and the worlds tallest chocolate fountain!). Caesars Palace next door has the Colloseum Shopping arcade, Trevi Fountain statue and an animatronic type Roman God show throughout the day, plus some great restaurants. Paris is themed as such and the cobbled streets and great to walk down and savour the atmosphere, as well as the Eiffel Tower! Venetian has the Italian theme running through it and a huge network of Gondolas and canals running right through it, plus some great themed shopping and stunning paintings on the ceiling. Also Wynn is lovely and fresh inside, a lovely garden walkway and a fantastic children's carousel made up of vibrant and colourful flowers and shrubs. There are many others to explore but these are my faves!

2) Bellagio fountains, every 30 minutes by day, and 15 by night, these fountains explode and move to the music, be it classical, contemporary or pop, you will be captivated by the dazzling display of light and water, shooting several hundred feet high!

3) The High Roller (like the London Eye) has some great views especially by night, overlooking the strip and beyond. It is a bit touristy, but I couldn't see anyone else say much about it so I thought I would include it! It is situated at the end of a relatively new city walk / pedestrianised area with small shops, food outlets, Ghiradelli Chocolate shop (always giving away freebies), and it is a nice experience.

Hope that helps from my perspective!

If your in NYNY you must try out the Piano bar. Best night we had in Vegas, so much fun. I agree with ian180 the above poster about the Bellagio and Ceasars. Looking forward to returning to the Bellagio in August.

Good advice Ian180. Bellagio conservatory is gorgeous. It changes regularly so hope its changed since May for our September trip. Those flowers are amazing.
