Tell me everything about DCL cruises!

Very tempted by the free kids offer on Disney Cruises! Been several times to Florida but never been on a cruise (of any sort). Had a quick look before but really don't know much at all about where to start researching a cruise.

We would only go for a short 3/4 night cruise as also want to do theme parks. Would definitely want a cabin with an open verandah. We are a family of four - children are 6 & 8. Bit worried about getting sea sick and the lack of space for four of us and all our luggage. Is there a website you can look at for cabin reviews - similar to seatguru for planes?

Also want to go to Kennedy Space Centre - is this close to Port Canaveral? Should we do KSC, stay overnight nearby and then go direct to cruise?

We'll have a hire car for the duration of our holiday - is the drive down straightforward, how long does it take etc. Is there a car park near the Port - how much does it cost?

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Read the cruise section here - especially the "Stickys" at the top of the forum page.
Also the DCL official website, Mousaver Savers website, Cruise Critic website and there are several dedicated DCL travel guides which I think are available on Amazon amazon/Birnbaum-Gui.../dp/142311051X
amazon/Passporters-...1811712&sr=1-1
(if not try Ebay)
- all good sources of info.

KSC is very close to the port - ideal to combine a visit before, or after a cruise ...I would choose after personally, as you are off the boat so early you will easily get a full day in at KSC before travelling back up to Orlando.

We'll have a hire car for the duration of our holiday - is the drive down straightforward, how long does it take etc. Is there a car park near the Port - how much does it cost?

The drive is straight forward from Orlando, and usually takes a little under an hour.

Yes, there is secure car parking next to the terminal - its around $15 per day.

You also have the option for 2 x one way rentals to and from the port (try Budget with USrentacar). You leave the car at the car rental depot (5 mins from the ship) and take a free transfer to the ship - that way you are not paying for the car rental or the car parking during the cruise.

..or some hotels at the port offer free transfers, and parking, for cruise ship customers if you spend the night before the cruise there.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA
Hope this helps.

Do it - you'll have a great time - have a few photos in an album on my profile. We usually have an outside cabin, don't worry about a verandah, you aren't in the room long enough! Castaway Cay is fantastic!

Have been twice and if I was in your position I would just book again ! Have a look at the Disney cruise line website - loads of info and photos to wet the appetite.

Quite agree with the comment above - therer is so much on the ship that you are hardly ever in the cabin !
