Breakfast

We're staying at POR and probably each morning we will eat at the Riverside Mill food court.

We are on the DDP, so this will count to one of our meals. How much do you get to spend? Is there a set menu you eat from depending on your plan?

Also is there particular items that you guys recommend to get value for money from the breakfast menu.

There's no set price. Anything that's classed as an entree, so main course is included plus a drink although you can swap the drink for a snack item since you'll have your refillable mug for that. Things like breakfast platters, pancakes, waffles, omelettes are generally on the menu but if you have a look at the menus on The dibb that'll give you an idea.

Riverside mill is great and you can get lots for your CS credit. There is no spend limit persé but there are set meals to choose. you can use a snack credit and get things like a yoghurt parfait if you would rather save credits for later.

You get a main course and a drink. As you will have your refillable mug, use this for coffee, and get a bottle of cold drink to take back to your room for later or take to the park with you.

We had the bounty platter often - filled us up until evening!

Bear in mind, once you get your food you have to go to the till, then once through the till you need to find seats, get your coffee, cutlery, little pots of syrup etc, so your food doesn't stay hot very long. We managed a system - one of us queued up with the food to pay, the other went to grab everything else and find a table.

Alternatively you could just have something smaller like Mickey waffles and bacon or French toast and bacon, but you'll still be paying a QS credit.

Or just use a snack credit if you just want a muffin or pastry, and use your refillable mug for coffee.

So we could use 4 snack credits; there are four of us going; for breakfast. As we aren't big eaters in the morning and then use our CS later on the day for lunch and another snack credit later.

Do you know what the snacks we can order at breakfast?

Thanks for that, it has made it a lot clearer.

With being a newbie on this, it can be a bit overwhelming trying to figure out how things work.

So glad I found this forum!

Yes you could do that. Things like muffins and pastries will count as a snack. There's a little purple and white symbol next to anything classed as a snack but the staff will keep you right. You can also use your credits in any order. So you could use 3 QS credits in one day and then eat only snacks another. You don't need to stick to 2 snacks plus 2 QS every day.

Thanks for those tips. It's good that I know that there will be symbols to let us know what are snacks.

It's good that there is quite a bit of flexibility with the DDP and you can choose how much you eat and when you eat.

If you look at the menu online, they don't have the symbols but basically anything under $5 will be considered a snack credit item. The yoghurt parfait counts as well, even though it's $5.79.

Another option is to get a couple of the larger meals and split them. Things like the bounty platter works well for this - one person can have the pancakes while the other has the bacon and eggs. That's what DH and I do anyway.

One thing though - even though POR has a well rated food court, I'd suggest trying breakfast elsewhere as well. You aren't limited to your own hotel, credits are valid everywhere - even in the posh resorts. And some of them have some items worth travelling for IMO - banana stuffed french toast at Kona Cafe (TS) or Capt Cook (QS) at the Poly, banana bread with nutella at Mara in AKL, freshly made beignets (doughnuts) at POFQ, etc.

ETA: Not sure if you're on DDP or QSDP. Confusingly, DDP is the name of both the service and one of the plans on it. If you didn't upgrade, you'll be on QSDP staying at POR. Everything I listed above will be fine, but you'd have to go to Capt Cook instead of Kona to have it included on your plan.
