I would highly recommend Magicool spray. It's air con in a can. A bit pricier than traditional spray cans but so much cooler. Works well for cooling cars down in Florida too

Just revisiting this. Have bought a few cans of cooling spray and finally my Mum managed to find some misting sprays/fans in one of the pound shops. They are quite small so won't hold a huge amount but we tried them out in the heat at the weekend and they seemed really good - the fan itself was quite powerful too. They are a size that I am happy to transport about and if you want to, you can remove the water tube and just use as a normal battery fan!

The best misting fans are probably these:

The key thing to look for when buying a misting fan is to avoid those where the spray is located behind the fan.
