What excursions would you advise, our kids are 8 & 10.

We've done a few Fjords cruises now and never tire of Norway and think it's a great destination with the kids. The Petroleum Museum in Stavanger is particularly good. The other itinerary is good too, but a little more traveling from the port to main destination (e.g. Bruges), and we already had another holiday booked for those dates. We've got friends travelling on that one though.

We never do any cruise line excursions as they are really expensive. We tend to just potter - my kids would happily just stay on the ship making the most of the pool and endless free ice cream.

In Stavanger we like the Petroleum museum which is 10 mins walk from the port. It's really interactive and kids always enjoy. At Bergen you can get the shuttle bus into the town and then get the funicular up to the top for great views and then walk down.

Olden and Gerainger are lovely and we usually just get off and have a walk, but from memory in both places there are plenty of options of trips at the dockside - bike hire, mini train, boat rides, glacier tours. I've never been to Hellesylt.

Fjord is wonderful cruise for scenery and being on deck with a cocktail as you sail through in the evening is fab.

For more ideas on visits have a look at cruise critic. I think there is a roll call for this sailing.

Hi, we don't do organised excursions
In Copenhagen we walked to Nyhavn, then up to one of the Castle/Palaces and watched the changing of the guard, back to ship via Little Mermaid, we were in until 2am so early evening we caught the local bus to Tivoli Gardens and spent the evening there on the rides.
Oslo we did HOHO bus, got off at Parliament building (I think), sculpture park and viking museum.
Bruges we shared a prearranged taxi in then went on a canal tour, brewery tour and explored the old town.
The town in Sweden had a fort up on a hill and we went and explored it.

If you do the fjords and go to Olden the local bus stops near the dock and takes you to the walkway to a glacier, it cost 6 of us less than 2 would have been on a ships tour for the same thing.
