Taking beer on the DCl
Last time we were on the wonder (2004) we were able to take our own beer onboard is this still the case or have they stopped this! we cruised (2005) on the carnival glory and they x rayed everything to stop booze being taken onboard!

Hi, we did the Wonder Jan 08 and they had stopped it then... No Alcohol was allowed to be taken onboard... not sure if they x-rayed though... just made you aware of it... having said that, you dock at Nassau... and you can bring stuff onboard there...

We went on the Wonder in Sept 08 and I took 8 bottles of Bacardi Breezers and Mick took quite a few bottles of beer. We took them in a ruckack and a pull along small case. They all went through the xray machine jingle jangling, but not a wod was said!

We did the Magic in Feb08 and took wine with us...I even had a gift basket made up & sent separately onboard the ship, from outside agency (Shirley) for DH, in which several bottles of beer were clearly visible through the cellophane.
If think there was some discussion about banning the taking of alcohol a while back, but from recollection this was to do with it being put in your suitcases that are handled by the porters (as opposed to hand held luggage)...and I think this still applies - no alcohol in suitcases - due the the possibility of breakage more than anything (and weight probably comes into it). Although DCL do not encourage you to take your own alcohol, as far as I'm aware they still allow it... as long as you take it in your hand luggage, and consume/open it descretely in your cabin, rather than blatantly start opening up your own bar on deck. You can take your own bottle of wine to dinner but they do have a $15 corkage fee for this, and I think it would be frown on if you took a bottle to Palo.
