Port Canaveral - is there much there?
Just wondering if there is anything much to see or do at Port Canaveral (apart from all of the cruise ships! )?
We're making our own way there from Orlando airport and will probably get there quite early. Also, does anybody know if it is a fairly easy drive from the airport? Thanks! |

To answer your second question first, it's a very easy drive on a low-rate toll road State Road 528.
If you're getting to the Port pretty early ie. before earliest boarding why not have a quick drive down the road to Cocoa Beach for lunch, it's only 5miles? Nice food and a nice beach to have a stroll along. Board as early as you can though as the earlier you get on, the earlier you can book those reservations you haven't made online

How early are you planning to get there? You can get into the terminal around 10.am usually so wouldn't have a lot of time to drive to Cocoa Beach I think. As has been said its a very easy drive to the port from the airport

Thanks for the replies. I think we'll probably get there around 11 am, not sure what time you can board but I'm guessing not until after lunch time.

I think we started boarding at around 1pm. By midday the queues to check in were quite long so although we had to sit around for a while we were glad we had got there early. If you're going to the DCL terminal there isn't loads to do but the time went quickly as there were characters coming out to meet the children all the time, we all enjoyed studying the model of the ship and there are lots of screens playing cartoons which the children liked. There is a little snack shop too but not loads to choose from, we waited till we got on board for the lunch buffet

we boarded around 12, so by the time you're checked in and have had a look around the terminal, seen the characters, taken a look at the outside of the ship, looked at your boarding info etc it's soon time!

Last August.
We arrived at around 11 am (after staying in Cocoa beach the previous night) and went straight through the check in process, waited a short time and was then allowed on board. I would not bother heading anywhere else once you get there, head straight for cruise ship. As said earlier easy drive down from Orlando. |
