Imagineers

For many, many years, I've been an avid fan of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), and wonder if anyone else shares this passion?

I love the work of John Hench, adore X Atencio (principally for having such a cool name, but also for his work), Bob Gurr, Marc Davis and Tony Baxter. I loved Tim Delaney's work with Disneyland Paris and Test Track too. Similarly, I'm a fan of Tom Morris and Eddie Sotto too - the latter generously share their world via Twitter and blogs. Finally though, my all-time favourite Imagineer is Joe Rohde.

Leslie Iwerks' Imagineering Story (and to some degree One Day at Disney) has also opened up our eyes deeper into WDI.

So I wondered if any of you shared this passion, and wanted to discuss these wonderful people here?

Loved the imagineering story. I’ve always been fascinated by the whole story of the Disney parks from Walt’s concept to the present day. Just never had enough time to really research it as much as I’d like

I joined Instagram just so I could follow Joe Rohde, he posts beautiful photos from his research trips as well as mini essays on art history and world cultures. He’s currently sharing stories about the architecture of Aulani resort and how it ties into Polynesian history and mythology.
The Imagineering Story shows just how many wonderful things you can create when you give your creative department free rein (and presumably an unlimited budget!) I’m sure Disney must be difficult to work for at time but Imagineering must be a dream career for many. Sadly I don’t possess 1/100th of the skill these people have, and wouldn’t know where to start learning- it seems you have to be an expert in art, engineering, IT and Magic
I’m a librarian and it’s my dream to work in the Animation Research Library in Burbank, or perhaps one of the prop or costume warehouses. Sadly you also need to be a jack of all trades- restorer, sculptor, tour guide, seamstress...I imagine it also helps to live in Burbank :P

Absolutely fascinated by Imagineers and their absolute breadth of skill.

I have the 2 Imagineering books and have been enjoying One Day At Disney, particularly when they showcase the occasional Imagineer.

Ive been saving The Imagineering Story though, during lockdown I'm in the house with husband and two small kids and I'm leaving the show so that when we are out of lockdown I can have a day by myself with no distractions... I can't wait!

Joe Rohde's insta essays are wonderful!

Yes they are very talented.

I also recommend the book ‘Realityland’ about the construction of WDW.
