Mobile Buying property in Italy

I am just wondering if anyone has ever bought property in Italy?

It's just a seed of an idea just now and we are just at the very early stages of looking into it.

Just wondering if anyone can offer words of wisdom 😊

Ideally we are looking for a little place to use just for us.

Thank you 😊 Yeah it is exciting but need to do a lot of research first to find out if it's even possible. Ideally we would like something cheap that we could fix up.

No, only kidding! Good luck, the project sounds fantastic - obviously best to see how Brexit plays out. Keep us updated.

Personally I would wait and see what happens when (or if) we leave the EU as that could change how to go about buying or what you could do with it regards staying in it etc.

Good luck though, hope it all works out as you hope.

Thanks,

Yeah we were saying about Brexit last night and how we just don't know what's going to happen. We won't be buying anything this year. We are going to use this year to look into it all and see what happens come Oct 31st. If all go's well then next year we will fly out and explore areas and properties.

We have seen some good properties on the web that are good prices and just need a little tlc. But looking on the web and seeing it in real life is two completely different things.

There is a lot to think about when buying a second home abroad, as an ex holiday home owner it is sometime not all its cracked up to be!

You have to be prepared to keep going back to the same place, that's fine at first but it can become old and a bit stale.

Be prepared to spend your vacation doing DIY, painting and maintaining your home.

Be prepared to always have it in the back of your mind, is it ok, what's happening there etc.

Be sure you are in a place that welcomes second home owners, some areas are hostile to those who only bring a few weeks a year income into the area and buy the inexpensive properties that local families could afford.

Do you speak the language?

Be happy to loose money. Homes do not always increase in value.

Accurately calculate the expenses, taxes and utilities and be sure that becoming resident does make you liable for local taxes you haven't considered.

Consider inheritance charges.

I dont regret our house in the sun, life is not about regret but go into it with an open mind. Consider renting a property for a couple of years and see how often you will use it.
