It's against US law on grounds of discrimination to ask for proof of disability.

We flew out on Friday to MCO. At gatwick my daughter was given a lanyard. She has juvenile arthritis and autistic traits (waiting assessment). When we got off plane a wheelchair was waiting for her and we went down to immigration. The ambassador saw the lanyard and said ‘with that lanyard you can go straight to line B’. We waited 10 mins and then was put straight through to baggage reclaim. I hop the return to LGW is as easy.
