You are absolutely correct that the tickets were cheaper back then - even taking into account that I was paid a lot less back then too.
I was merely pointing out that there was enough in the Universal parks to keep my 3 year old daughter interested for about 2 or 3 days. And, of course, kids under 3 years old (like the OP's youngest) get in for free.
