Discovery Cove - cameras
Hi, booked discovery cove today for next month as got a really good offer from attraction tickets direct (134 each). I'm just wondering, has anybody ever bought a waterproof bag for their iPhone and took their own photos? I've heard that the photo package is really expensive so just thinking of other options. Would I be able to keep my phone round my neck at all times or do they not allow it in the dolphin swim? If not, can I use it during the stingray and fish parts?
Thanks in advance! X |

You cant use on the dolphin swim. Think you are ok in the other bits.

We take a disposable underwater one but as Amandajane says you can't take anything in with the dolphins

It is expensive for the reasons above, you can't take your own in, and even if you had family/friends watching with a decent camera, they probably wouldn't get the same photos that the DC photographer gets (they are usually in the water with you as well getting some good pics).
For everything else you can take whatever camera you want. I tried a waterproof bag thing for my camera the first year we went but found that it was hard to use the controls and the pics weren't great. Last time I got a proper waterproof/action digital camera for about £50 and it was money well spent, took hundreds of photos underwater and all came out looking brilliant

I took a Go Pro action camera last year. I was able to use it underwater in the Grand Reef, Freshwater Oasis, the Wind-Away River and on the SeaVenture activity. You cannot take a camera on the dolphin swim.
I have also recently contacted Discovery Cove to enquire whether I could take the action camera on the new Shark Swim Experience, but was advised this would not be possible.

Thanks. I didn't think of my phone being tricky to use, I'll get an underwater one. X

We used our iphones in a waterproof case, and got some good results, we turned the video on before submerging the phone and it was more difficult to do it underwater.

My husband and brother in law took photos and vids from the side on our dolphin swim and they were great! Is there someone sitting out who could do this in your party?
