I did ours today as we just got new passports.

I haven't worked for 20 years and my previous employer no longer exits. I just put their name but put 'unknown' for the rest.

Just waiver over the question mark near the box to fill in and it gives details of what to put for the self employed.

All 3 applications went through in a couple of hours.

I did DHs at the weekend. He’s been self employed for 7 years. Just put his details in the employer section - it was approved.

We are both self employed and again just filled out our own details. Was approved in a few hours!

Yes, all you need to do is give something which isn't lies, and can be explained if it ever comes up.

It is not a password. Any conversations they have with you regarding it, they are looking to assess your character, not ability to exactly remember what you put. It's not just the words they are checking, it's the body language and "naturalness" of the way you give the explanation. Anything honestly delivered which reasonably matches what you put will suffice.
