Mobile European Road Trip Ideas

We are thinking about what we want to do in 2020.

We only really have about 2 weeks as our eldest will be moving into her uni house at the beginning of August and we need to be back for the 20th August for GCSE results.

Originally we thought about doing a west coast road trip but would prefer a little longer than 2 weeks so we aren’t rushing.

So we are now wondering about a European road trip as there are so many gorgeous places in the world closer than the US.

Has anybody done a road trip or have any ideas or wear to look.

Thank you.

We haven’t but our friends love doing this with there 4! Children.

Last year they did uk through Austria to Hungary with a stop in Budapest for the F1 race and on down into Croatia. Stunning scenery. They book mixture of Airbnb or hotels. Took about 3 weeks.

The list is endless! We have done Southern Germany and Austria (a long time ago) and Northern Italy. We do tend to base ourselves somewhere and then do trip from there as I hate changing accommodation all the time!

It depends on what you want and how much you mind driving! This year we are thinking of Switzerland se don’t know what DS is doing so would prefer to not have to fly but everything is still under discussion

I echo using Airbnb - we use the site a lot!

a few years ago we went to Slovenia for 2 weeks, its such a lovely country and not too overly populated yet! we stayed in the mountains (we went in sept) but it was right on the border with Italy and Austria, and also within driving distances to Hungary and Croatia. so we drove to Venice and Treiste in Italy, Salzburg and Graz in Austria, Porec and Zagreb in Croatia and a small town in Hungary that i cant remember its name! good times tho, Croatia especially is lovely.
oh and we also got engaged in Ljubljana!

Some lovely suggestions here - I'm following because we're taking our tent to Europe for the first two weeks in September next year, and going wherever the best weather takes us. Feels weird not to be planning (usually my favourite part!) but we won't have any idea where we're going until we get over there.

I fancy doing this in a camper van. But as we don’t own one and the rental costs are very high so it’s a bit of a pipe dream currently.

Bev - there is a French site that is the camper van equivalent of as Airbnb that we have used! Quite a bit cheaper than renting from a dealer! I can find the name of the site if you are interested! We rented one in the area we wanted rather than one near home to avoid driving it to the destination!

In 2018 we took our Motorhome to West/North Europe. Ferry Hull- Rotterdam overnight, then Netherlands, Germany up to Kiel where we took another night ferry to Gothenburgh, Sweden. Then Sweden west coast cross over to Stockholm on the east coast, down south again, took bridge over to Denmark. Through Denmark, short ferry over to Germany, then Netherlands and ferry back. Doable in 2 weeks (we did 3 but stayed longer in some places).
