I agree about Madame Tussauds. It isn't great fo young children who often have no idea who the "celebrities" are either.

I don’t know London well but our son stays in the same Premier Inn as you have booked and he often visits London. He says the location is excellent for getting around
We are also from a small rural areas and cities used to petrify me and my DH didn’t like them either. However, we visited New York in 2017 as our first city break, worried after we booked it as we were very nervous and unsure but we loved it and never felt unsafe there. Since then we have visited Venice, Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam (which is a huge bustling city and our favourite so far) and this summer we are excited to be visiting Athens. Many other cities are now on our list to see. Crowds and traffic is the biggest worry still, but as long as you are careful crossing roads and keep your hands safely on your bag/purse in crowds, you will be fine. We also tend to use Uber (or equivalent) a lot in cities as it’s cashless which is easier than working out the right money etc. You also input where you are going in the app so in countries where the driver doesn’t speak English, it’s easier as they know where you want to go. However walking is the best way to see any city. I hope you enjoy your stay and it encourages you to visit a few more |

I have lived in central London for almost 4 years after changing firms. In the area of Kings Cross I would either walk or get the tube as traffic is often gridlocked. The Kings Cross area will be very busy but I would have no safety worries above and beyond the normal precautions late at night.
If you want to go to Madame Tussauds I would walk or tube if weather is bad although do echo questions of it being an interesting visit for a child - Natural History or Science Museum would be alternatives, of the airline across to the O2 for a totally different experience - my 8 year old nephew loved it. |

Just wanted to add to the voices saying don't do Madame Tussards!
Above post suggesting Science or Natural History museums is a good one - both are WAY better than MT is. London Dungeons is pretty good as well. Done that a couple of times (when we had Merlin passes) and enjoyed it.
