Those that say they cant afford to go without the DDP have you looked at prices for staying off site? Others are very clear that this is cheaper and better food even with the travel.
There are some partner hotels that give perks

Plus ni one knows whether Disney will offer free DDP next year or not. How that will play out if people have moved and taken the discount I dint know.

For people like me who can't drive, off site isn't cheaper, uber costs soon mount up.

They don't know if they will release dining plans and they know they have a lot more booking they can accommodate. It sucks but in reality - they will lose a lot as they can't operate on full capacity and they have no idea what capacity they can handle

I said it before - they want people to cancel. They have never dealt with anything like this and they need to figure things out to remain profitable. Heavy discounting as free DDP won't be around. They don't even offer paid DDP

Even with uber costs off site will be cheaper than most Disney hotels. A moderate like POFQ cost about £230 a night for my booking this year, whilst when I stayed offsite at Christmas last year it was less than £100 a night, that was staying in one of the Disney Springs partner resorts.

I ended up using uber most days, and it cost no more than $12 each way to any of the parks, so $24 a day to one park, or multiples thereof for more than one. So even going to 2 parks a day, you are still looking at almost £100 a day cheaper. The hotel did have free shuttles as well, which I did use on a couple of days and that would reduce cost even further, as well as being walking distance to Disney springs.

Obviously if staying in a value the saving will be less, I had booked for art of animation this year as well for a couple of nights and that was £180 a night, so still cheaper to stay off site using uber.

Actually think about it

If you had business and were able to serve 20 people, now you are only able to accomodate 10. In order to survive - you need to ask those 10 to pay more, not less

With reduced capacity I expect that WDW will not only getting rid of a heavy discounts but price increases are on their way

I get why you are upset. From my perspective, I think I’d rather have had my holiday cancelled and have had absolutely no option to go than what we have been offered.

Our choice boils down to a discount that doesn’t go anywhere near covering what we lost, and half an holiday when you look at what won’t be open. But because we don’t want to do that we feel forced into cancelling.

This means we are left with non refundable flights we don’t want, a non refundable airport hotel we don’t want and non refundable parking we don’t want.

We have to hold our nerve now and hope that the flights can’t go for some reason so we have a chance of getting our money back.

Yes the uber will mount up but it may still be an option for people. I dont drive over there either and if you stayed at a partner hotel near Disney springs you get some benefits plus you can walk to Disney springs and save a little. Plus the room may be bigger

Or find a hotel near a number of restaurants so that you have a choice each day for food. People often find they dont need to eat as much if not on a dining plan so costs will be far less.

I spent about $300 on travel over 10 days but that included airport transfers and universal which is further away. I also went shopping a few times so if I cut those out it would be a lot less. Though you can get food at the malls so may work out cheaper overall.

I think it is something that people need to explore, there are plenty in here who can advise you

I've done the maths a few times and as a solo visitor getting ubers everywhere would cost me more.

In my case I can't drive for health reasons, I have no choice in the matter. I would happily do so if I could. So for me it's 'can't drive', not 'don't drive'.

Fair enough, you must do some amount of travelling each day to run up a potential uber bill and food costs of $170+ every day. (assuming you had free dining at disney, if not then obviously you would need to pay the higher cost of food in disney on top of that)

For me I saved a fortune staying off site versus onsite, done both multiple times and off site will always work out cheaper even using ubers and not using any of the free shuttles the off site hotels offer.

Not saying off site is better or worse than onsite, just my experience of the cost.
